Our Board Members Mats Hellström and Caroline Edelstam has co-signed a op-ed that addresses the current shortage of engineers in Sweden and its potential threat to the country’s technological advancements and global competitiveness. They identify slow bureaucracy in education and workforce immigration, along with gender imbalance in the tech sector, as key issues. Proposed solutions include tax incentives for companies investing in technical skills development and hiring more engineers, as well as mentorship programs to support female engineers and promote diversity. It emphasizes the urgency for the government to act swiftly and ensure Sweden’s future by investing in domestic engineering talent.
The op-ed has been published in several news papers and industry magazines the latest weeks. It is collectively signed by Caroline Edelstam, General Secretary of Engineers Without Borders and Board Member of Norden International; Mats Hellström, Chairman of Norden International, former Minister for Foreign Trade and Agriculture, and UN delegate; Marie Ideström, Co-founder and CEO of Womengineer; Linus Persson, Founder of Engineers’ Day; and Shiva Sander-Tavallaey, AI specialist and Adjunct Professor at KTH.
The op-ed can be read fully here (in Swedish).
