This week, we at Norden International, in collaboration with the European Commission in Stockholm, invited representatives from each parliamentary party to discuss Nordic issues that influence the European Parliament’s work.
The session was chaired by Göran von Sydow, chairman of Sieps, and opened by Paulina Dejmek-Hack, director at the European Commission. Participants included representatives from various parliamentary parties:
Evin Incir, The Social Democratic Party (Socialdemokraterna)
Kjell-Arne Ottosson, The Christian Democrats (Kristdemokraterna)
Pehr Granfalk, The Moderate Party (Moderaterna)
Sven Tornberg, The Centre Party (Centerpartiet)
Lorena Delgado Varas, The Left Party (Vänsterpartiet)
Nina Larsson, The Liberal Party (Liberalerna)
Rebecka Le Moine, The Green Party (Miljöpartiet)
Tomas Brandberg, The Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna)
The discussion focused on several key areas: economic policies related to openness and free trade from a Nordic perspective, climate issues specific to Northern Europe, the role of culture as a cohesive force in the Nordics and its influence on cultural creation across Europe, a unified security policy including pan-Nordic NATO membership, the Nordic approach to gender equality which has not yet been fully adopted by the EU, and other engaging topics pertinent to the parliamentary parties.
The meeting took place at the Europe House in Stockholm on May 14th.
